Creative Music - enrichment course for elementary school (1 semester)
This class is designed for young musicians of all skill levels, from the new initiate to the aspiring virtuoso. We use a flexible ensemble model to design and develop a performance together, culminating in a live show at the end of the semester. Students may bring any instrument, or use voice, hand, and body percussion. Our class has a wide range of fun activities and exercises to develop our musical minds and bodies, from improvisation and drum circles to movement and theater games.
Over the course of the semester, we grow our skills as performers, both individually and as an ensemble, including:
Connecting experientially with musical foundations, like matching pitch, singing, and feeling rhythm through drumming and movement
Developing confidence, self-esteem, and stage presence through thoughtful expression and public performance
Listening and working well with others
Exploring and sharing our unique personalities
Learning to enjoy and appreciate different musical genres
Discovering different cultures through music
Improvisation and creativity
Our goal is to teach students how to express their personalities through music, and understand that each one of them has a unique voice. The course culminates in an original performance developed collaboratively between students and teachers.
